Dr Damian Smith is a Melbourne‑based curator, arts writer and academic whose career bridges Australia, Asia and Latin America. He is Director of Words for Art, and the Australasian Cultural Arts Exchange (ACAE Gallery), Melbourne. In 2019 he was the Australian curator for the 13th Havana Biennale. Smith has curated over 40 exhibitions ranging from the National Gallery of Victoria and Heide Museum to the Today Art Museum in Beijing and his writings have been published by more than 65 arts institutions around the world. In 2016 the State Library of Victoria established the Damian Smith Archive to preserve his essays, exhibition catalogues and art ephemera.
