Gabrielle Warr

Plenary Speaker, Workshop Presenter

Gabrielle is a micro mosaic artist who grew up in Canada and now lives in Ravenna, Italy. Her family  encouraged her to explore various forms of creativity. Her background in watercolour and oil painting, jewellery making, and other art forms such as polymer sculpture, wet and dry felting, tatted lace, and photography has been instrumental in shaping her artistic journey. Her passion for languages, knowledge acquisition, and art experimentation led her to Ravenna, Italy, the hub of mosaic revival, where she worked and taught alongside Master Mosaicist Luciana Notturni at her Mosaic Art School. Under Notturni’s guidance, Gabrielle discovered the beauty of mosaics and the elegance of micro mosaics. For over two decades, she has been living in Italy, teaching students from all over the world the art of creating precise reproductions of ancient mosaics.

“I believe this dying craft needs to be preserved. So few people know of its existence and there are even fewer skilled artisans using it. After falling in love with this technique I have encountered genuine curiosity from people about this fascinating craft. Micro mosaics have gained popularity recently and I am certain they will continue to grow in popularity. I believe it is important for people to understand the skill and artistry that goes into each piece. I hope that this craft will flourish once again.”
