Pat George KSM

Pat George KSM is a self-taught artist, with over 20yrs experience as a Ceramic Artist.

Pat became hooked on mosaics when she first came across the art form in the early 80’s on Waiheke Island, when she helped Verliska Campaign to mosaic the local Kindergarten Garden entrance.

Mosaic art has always challenged and inspired her to develop the art form in exciting new ways.  She is always looking for different materials to incorporate into her pieces often creating three dimensional complex designs.

Her mosaic panels feature many different elements such as

fine bone china, stained glass, vitreous glass tiles, tempered glass, mirror tiles, ceramic tiles, glass nuggets, stone pebbles, millefiori, flax, päua, shells, driftwood, bull kelp and often whatever the sea leaves her to find on her local beaches.

Pat uses these different combinations of materials to enhance her pieces with the use of texture, color and reflection of light. Pieces can often subtly change throughout the day when the sunlight moves across them. She often incorporates her own sculpted clay designs which are raku or hand painted, glazed and fired to heighten her mosaic panels, giving them their unique design.

Pat has shared her knowledge of mosaic techniques through teaching for many years, including 5years of teaching intellectually disabled clients at Kaurilands Skills Centre in Tokatoka.

Pat is of Native Māori decent, Ngāpuhi te iwi, Ngāti Manu te hapū, Kāretu te marae in Bay of Islands.
